Info for New Students

Like so many things at MIT, the food scene offers abundant choices and variety. Some students choose to eat all meals in campus venues, while others choose to cook. Many students choose a combination of on-campus meal purchasing and cooking. For students who choose to cook, there are shuttles that run to local grocery stores.

There are places to purchase food throughout the campus. All MIT Community Members are welcome in all cafés and dining rooms, with the exception of the Faculty Lunch (which is open exclusively to faculty and their invited guests) and the pubs (which are open to community members age 21 and over only). If you choose to live in a hall without a House Dining Room, for example, you are still welcome to dine in House Dining Rooms in other halls.

There are several student dining committees, as well as representatives through student government, who are available to speak with students who have questions about dining. Campus Dining staff members are also available to meet with you.
